Oso Bay Biennial XX – Painting: Realism Redux.

Realism Redux, Oso Bay Biennial, TAMUCC, CorpusChristi, TXRepresentational painting has been through numerous incarnations since its beginning and continues to evolve.  Experimental applications in paint, intriguing imagery, and unconventional subject matter have brought it back again and again. This exhibition and the accompanying symposium will focus on alternative approaches to representational painting.

All painting media and methods will be accepted but some form of the recognizable image must be evident.

The exhibition will be held in Texas A & M-Corpus Christi’s Islander Art Gallery (4024 Weber Rd) as part of the Oso Bay Biennial XX Painting SymposiumTAMUCC is partnering with K Space Contemporary for online entry system administration.

Oso Bay Biennial XX Painting Symposium, held Thursday, March 29 and Friday, March 30, 2018 will include exhibitions, panel discussions, and artists presentations.

Fahamu Pecou received his BFA at the Atlanta College of Art in 1997 and an MA from Emory University in 2017, as well as a Ph.D. from Emory University’s Institute of Liberal Arts.  In 2017 Pecou was the subject of a retrospective exhibition “Miroirs de l’Homme” in Paris, France. He is a recipient of the 2016 Joan Mitchell Foundation “Painters and Sculptors” Award. His work is featured in noted private and public national and international collections including; Smithsonian National Museum of African American Art and Culture, Societe Generale (Paris), Nasher Museum at Duke University, The High Museum of Art, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Seattle Art Museum, Paul R. Jones Collection, Clark Atlanta University Art Collection and Museum of Contemporary Art Georgia.



Eligibility: Artists age 18+ living in the USA, Canada and Mexico may enter. Entries must be original works completed within the last 2 years. Failure to comply with submission guidelines may disqualify your entry.

Media: Open to all painting media including oil, acrylic, watercolor, ink, gouache, etc.  as well as painting surfaces including canvas, mylar, linen, board, paper, etc.  No giclee/inkjet prints or high quality copies stretched over stretcher bars.

Size Limitation: Framed works must not exceed 60 inches in either direction.

Format: Works are juried from digital images submitted online. Artists may submit one image for each work of art.

Online Entry Form: We are partnering with our good friends at K Space Contemporary to administer the jurying process. It is an automatic function of the entry form service to request your artist statement and resume. Jurors will only review your artwork, so you may type in “coming soon” in those spaces to save time.

Notice: Notice of acceptance or denial is emailed to the address in MY PROFILE in this Entry (Entrythingy) System. Click MY PROFILE to update your contact information. Accepted works are also posted online at

Awards: $1500 in Cash awards for the top 3 works (Best of Show, 2nd, 3rd Places) selected after the show is installed.

Sales: The Islander Art Gallery will retain 40% commission on sales. INCLUDE GALLERY COMMISSION when pricing your work. The price & label information that you type into the online entry form is the label info to be displayed with your work. 

Entry Fee is Non-Refundable: $30 for up to 3 works of art. Each additional piece is $5. Entry fee may be paid online through PayPal or by mailing a check or money order payable to K Space Contemporary. Paying via PayPal through the online system automatically completes your submission.

To Pay Entry Fee by Check or Money Order, close out of the entry system once you have added all of your images. Do not click the PayPal button. Your entry remains in the system as “Not Submitted,” We will manually correct your entry status to “Submitted” when payment is received. Mail entry fee to K Space Contemporary, P.O. Box 545, Corpus Christi, TX 78403. Mailed entry fees must be postmarked by Feb. 19th.

Selected Works: We reserve the right to reject works not represented accurately in the juried image, and works that arrive damaged, late, are poorly constructed or poorly presented (warped frames, etc.).

Presentation / Framing Requirements: Works must be properly prepared for exhibition with wire securely attached. Canvas / linen works must be properly stretched over stretcher bars unless otherwise presented in their submission image. No additional gallery framing is required on stretched paintings.  Paper works must be properly framed using Plexi-glass or equivalent, (no glass). All works must be wired and ready to hang.

Shipping: All shipping costs and liability for damage are the responsibility of the artist. Accepted works must be shipped via UPS or FedEx in reusable containers. Hand Delivered and Shipped works must arrive at TAMUCC by the date noted in the calendar.

Insurance: Works are not insured while on display. The gallery is climate controlled and protected by a security system. TAMUCC takes precautions to protect the artwork at all times but will not be responsible for loss or damage. We recommend that you insure your work if you so choose. 


  1. Once logged in, you will see multiple opportunities offered by K Space Contemporary (Annual Proposal Review, 3rd Coast National, etc.).  Be sure to select the appropriate opportunity.
  2. Add each image file by clicking Add File. Allow time for each photo to upload.  Do Not click Complete Entry/Submit this Entry until you have uploaded all of your images.
  3. Description of Work & Statement Specific to Entry are visible above your images and serve as quick references as jurors review the work.
  4. Make sure you can see ALL of your uploaded images and documents on your screen before clicking the PayPal button or Complete Entry/Submit this Entry.
  5. Resume and Statement are not necessary: It is an automatic function of the entry form service to request an artist statement and resume. Generally, juror(s) will only review your artwork. You may type “coming soon” in those spaces to save time.
  6. Update Contact Info: Make sure your email address is correct – This email address is where the notice of entry results will be sent. To update personal information, click “My Profile” at the top.
