Fictive Portraits: Samplings from a Timeless Village – Intaglio prints and monotypes by Dennis Olsen

Gallery Talk by artist Dennis Olsen at 6 pm

Corpus Christi, TX:  K Space Contemporary is pleased to announce the opening of Fictive Portraits: Samplings from a Timeless Village, an exhibition of intaglio portraits by San Antonio artist Dennis Olsen.  The exhibition will be on view March 2 through April 27, 2012.

Olsen will be exhibiting selections from the series, “Samplings,” in which designs within the works are derived from bank note engravings from around the world.  Olsen’s “borrowings from those notes do not respect their provenance. Like musical samplings after which they are titled, they are composite faces: kings, queens, tyrants, heroes, saints and sinners. They are a complex visual mixing that melds facial appearances of ethnicity, gender, and class.”  Each “personality” is accompanied by a narrative suggested by the finished print – see example at right. K Space Contemporary is pleased to present Constructed Realities an exhibition of sculptural works of art by Dallas artists Joshua Goode and Lesli Robertson.   Both artists use materials commonly associated with construction, but in very different combinations.  Goode will be exhibiting The Haunted Mesa, an installation in which he is “exploring new ways to represent some of the more enigmatic qualities of ancient tombs and mythology in my own tomb building.”  Lesli Robertson, in addition to other works, will present a sculptural work created in part by local community members during a workshop, which she conducted in October.
