A painter and a sculptor, Magar has an entire chapter devoted to his work in the recent book ‘New American Abstraction 1950-1970′ published by Skira. Checkered Silence features new paintings by Ruby Christine.
A native of Corpus Christi, Ruby quietly discovered freedom in painting. Often described as art naïve, Ruby’s paintings are not literal or polished. Ruby is driven by the urge to express raw emotion and fleeting sensations. After working in various mediums and styles, Ruby recently finds herself mixing mediums like acrylics, sand, joint compound, oil and chalk pastels. Ruby prefers large paintings: “I’m all about scale. Whatever size canvas I end up choosing, I usually end up going off the page.”image by Ruby Christine
