Cynthia Alvarez

Since leaving K Space studios in 2001, Cynthia Alvarez has lived in several cities all over Texas and decided Corpus Christi was the place to return to in 2013. She took part in a figure drawing show with K Space in 2014, participated as a vendor in several Dia De Los Muertos celebrations, and worked as an art educator for The Art Center of Corpus Christi from 2014-2016. Cynthia enjoys making art with her best friend in her studio as a great way of coping with stress and is currently the Certified Family Partner at a local mental health authority. She uses her lived experience as a parent who is raising a child who is on the Autism spectrum and other mental health challenges to give support and help to other parents. She is a proud mom of a teenager, Charlie who is now a senior in high school; their journey towards mental health wellness has been tough but rewarding. Recently, Cynthia’s journey to reunite with her cultural identity has led up to the current piece in the K Space Anniversary show entitled, “My Olmec Self”. It is the first time in many years that art has been used as a means of self-expression and it is definitely the beginning of a new chapter in her story as an artist.
