K Space Art Studios is a thriving cooperative workspace that has been highly influential in the Corpus Christi art community. It was established in November 1995 by Erick and Raychelle Schaudies in the third-floor warehouse of the former Kress Five & Dime Store. In addition to offering affordable studio rentals, K Space Art Studios has presented numerous exhibitions and community events and led the way in creating a bustling art scene in downtown Corpus Christi. Realizing the need for a contemporary art center in the Coastal Bend, the studio artists established K Space Contemporary, which is now a key non-profit arts organization that provides opportunities to artists, conducts educational programming for all ages, creates public works of art, and organizes community events such as the ever-popular Dia de Los Muertos Festival.

Over the years, K Space has been credited with helping propel downtown revitalization efforts when it was once an afterthought of entertainment seekers in the city. Now it has become a cultural “mecca”, THE place to see and be seen, a draw of intrigue and curiosity. This sensation started with the Studios’ open house events and rose with other events in which K Space collaborated with other individual artists, galleries, and businesses in the immediate downtown area.

Housing 12-18 artists at a time, K Space Art Studios serves as an incubator where artists improve their artistic skills and aesthetic, learn exhibition promotion, curating and installation, and collaborate on projects. Many former and current studio artists have become prominent artists, educators, curators, and gallery/art museum professionals. Their successes are part of K Space Art Studios’ legacy. This celebration highlights their talent and achievements as well as their contributions to the Corpus Christi community.

K Space Art Studios is proud to count so many esteemed artists as former and current members. Artists participating in the 25th Anniversary Show (at printing) include:
