Creating Hope

August 6 – September 17, 2021

Opening Reception:

August 6th, 5:30 – 9 pm

Community Art Exhibition

K Space Contemporary, in partnership with Esperanza de Tejas, is pleased to present Creating Hope, an exhibition to conclude our recent art education initiative called Creating Hope with Art. This community exhibition will feature works of art by Creating Hope with Art participants and local artists of all ages and backgrounds. Artworks will reflect hope, positivity, and gratitude.

Creating Hope with Art is an online series of lessons on Facebook @KSpaceContemporaryArtEducation, Instagram @KSpaceArtLab and YouTube. K Space instructors presented live and recorded lessons that may be accessed online (free of charge) and/or by using our Creating Hope Art Journal. (Free copies of the Creating Hope Art Journal are available at K Space Contemporary).

Creating Hope with Art was designed to help people in the Coastal Bend heal from negative life events by learning to transform their emotions into artwork.  Creating Hope focuses on ways to re-frame negative thoughts, promote gratitude, identify emotions, and practice mindfulness and self-care. Participants not only learn art techniques, but also take away skills that they can continue to practice independently and integrate into new ways of coping now and in the future. We can spark hope and a healthy mindset through art!

Creating Hope with Art was made possible through funding from Texas Commission on the Arts and support from AEP Texas.  Instructors include Lori Edwards, Rachel Payne, Monica Marie Garcia and Cynthia Alvarez.  Lessons remain on @KSpaceArtLab indefinitely and a selection will be uploaded to our K Space Arts YouTube channel.

Special thanks to our supporters. Creating Hope with Art is made possible with funding provided by Texas Commission on the Arts with printing provided by AEP Texas. General support is provided by National Endowment for the Arts, H-E-B, Coastal Bend Community Foundation, Peoples Market, and numerous K Space Contemporary donors and members.
