LOTERIA CORPUS CHRISTI
LOCATED AT: 619 CHAPARRAL STREET next to ELLISON LAW OFFICES PARKING LOT
The “Loteria!” exhibition evolved into a plan for a Corpus Christi version of the game as well as an outdoor mural. Works of art in the exhibition were photographed, catalogued and submitted to a panel of jurors. The jurors selected 54 cards for inclusion in the mural. Twenty-four card paintings each enlarged to a 4’ x 6 ‘ panel were installed in 2014 (Phase I).
The mural entitled Loteria Corpus Christi was dedicated during a ceremony on October 2, 2015 to the Marina Arts District in conjunction with ArtWalk. 34 participating artists, building owners Dottie & Jill Clower, mural installer Pat Webb, K Space Board of Directors and staff, and a crowd of 200 friends, neighbors and art lovers were in attendance.
The finished size of Loteria Corpus Christi is 52 ft. x 24 ft. It is located on the south wall of the former Kress Five & Dime Store building at 619 Chaparral St., in downtown Corpus Christi. It is one of the largest public works of art in the city.
Loteria Corpus Christi mural merchandise is available at K Space Contemporary, Dia de los Muertos Festival, Art Museum of South Texas and Marina Holiday Inn gift shop.
